Health and Safety

Sussex Scaffolding is a company that is Health and Safety Assured. We have an external Health and Safety Consultant who works with all our staff, ensuring that everyone is qualified in Asbestos safety awareness and that all site supervisors are Health and Safety trained within HSE regulations. Some of our scaffolding erectors are also advanced CISRS trained operatives and have full licences for powered access such as cherry pickers. Not to mention staff trained in SG4:05. All scaffolding erectors receive on the job training with us to gain maximum experience.

Here are some recent work examples:

New build Pharmacy, Portsmouth

Director, Glen Pearce was involved at the design stage to provide access scaffolding for the new build construction of a steel framed building. Access scaffolding was provided for the rising brickwork and blockwork to the external walls and edge protection handrails were erected from powered access including a ladder access tower to install the new roof covering.

Portsmouth University.

Access platforms were provided to a high level stairwell with all lifts boarded and handrailed for the renewal of the glass and cladding. The scaffolding was covered with monaflex sheeting to protect the building whilst the works were carried out. A beamed gantry was erected at low level to span over the lower roof to enable the structure to be erected.

New build housing site, Portsmouth.

Progressive scaffolding to new build houses and flats was provided including loading bays for the storage of materials. Birdcage scaffolds were erected to all floor levels to act as edge protection whilst the floor joists were installed at all floor levels. Adaptions for external treatment works including rendering and tile hanging were provided by adapting the external scaffolding to boarded working lifts once the new roof was installed.

Portsmouth Train Station

Glen Pearce worked on this project to provide a hanging scaffold positioned underneath the existing platforms for the refurbishment of the steelwork. The scaffolding connected to the lower steel work using steel clamps and a fully boarded platform was installed using alloy beams to span across the platforms to provide a safe working area. A Haki staircase was provided to access the hanging platform from the station area above.

Balcony work, Portsmouth

As part of the Portsmouth Council refurbishment project scaffolding was erected to the rear of a large block of flats for the renewal of the balcony coverings using bitumen. Scaffolding was erected to the ten storey high building with boarded lifts to suit the works and included a ladder access tower. The structure was tied to the building using Hilti type ties drilled to the building for stability.

St Mary`s Hospital, Portsmouth.

Design scaffolding was erected to an existing wing of the hospital with all lifts boarded up to roof level for window replacement. A temporary roof scaffold using a pre-fabricated roofing system was provided to cover the occupied building while a new roof covering was installed. A goods hoist was used to move materials from ground level to various levels for the window replacements and new roof installation.

Southern Water, Portsmouth.

Scaffold platforms were erected inside the water works for the renewal of the cooling fans with scaffolding hung from the walkways positioned inside the water tanks. Tube and fitting scaffold platforms were provided with all lifts boarded and handrailed to access the fans. Ladder accesses were provided inside the hanging platforms to gain access to the works.

New build Swimming Pool, Portsmouth.

A scaffold birdcage was used to cover the swimming pool area using alloy beams spanning across the open area and fully boarded to enable the mechanical and electrical contractors using aluminium towers to gain access to the roof area. The boarded deck was double boarded with plastic in between to protect the new swimming pool and ply boarded to make a flat and level surface for the alloy towers to move across.
